(1934-2011)

Leo G. Witt, 77, died June 13, 2011, in Jetmore.  He was born Feb. 13, 1934, in Johnson to C.T. and Bessie (Gorden) Witt.

Formerly of Hanston, he had lived the last 10 years in Ellsworth.  He was an independent truck driver and a farmer and stockman.

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, both of Kinsley.
On Oct. 27, 1972, he married Janell Schaller in Greensburg.  She survives.

Other survivors include daughters Mary Mayfield of Butler, Mo., Rose Weber and Margaret Witt of Kansas City, and Royeletta Rees of Tualatin, Ore.; sons Daniel of Oklawaha, Fla., Nicholas of Lincoln, Christopher of Montgomery, Texas, Joseph of Ellsworth and Michael of Offutt AFB, Omaha, Neb.; stepson Christopher Roth of Madison; brother Thomas Witt of Salt Lake City, Utah; sisters Maxine Waterhouse of Jetmore, Audrey Hess of North Newton and Joan Freeman of Waxahachie, Texas; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers Wayne, Delbert, Leon and Fred Witt and a granddaughter, Lilliona Marie.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery with military graveside rites by Ellsworth VFW and American Legion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ellsworth VFW or American Legion, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 45, Ellsworth, Kan. 67439.

Obituary – Dorothy Schmidt » Cedar County News

Dorothy was born July 19, 1927, at Menominee, to Anton and Mary (Schaefer) Hoebelheinrich. She grew up on a farm west of Menominee and graduated from Mount Marty High School, Yankton, S.D., in 1946. Dorothy worked as a clerk in the Post Office at Marty Mission, S.D., and then went to work in Omaha for Mutual of Omaha and Woodman of the World. She moved to Yankton and worked at Sacred Heart Hospital. She and Mark Schmidt were married Oct. 23, 1957, in Menominee, and then farmed south of Hartington. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 51 years, Mark Schmidt, Hartington; four children and their spouses, Kenny and Sheila Schmidt, Hartington; Marty Schmidt, St. Louis, Mo.; Gail and Guy Ormiston, Waxahachie, Texas; and Carol and Nick Heller, Wisner; a daughter-in-law, Jeanie Schmidt, Maryville, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters, Rosemary Lange, Crofton, and Denelda Janus, Mundelein, Ill.; and a brother, Tony Hoebelheinrich, Kansas City, Kan.
