Robert “Terry” McCarty, 71, passed away June 16, 2011, in Houston, Texas, where his wife was receiving medical treatment.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church with Scott Melton officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. til’ 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, at the White Family Funeral Home.

Should friends desire, memorials maybe made to First United Methodist Church of Bowie or to the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements are entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.

Terry was born February 15, 1940, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Howard and Hazel (Cunningham) McCarty. He graduated from Bowie High School in 1958 and attended college at the University of Houston. Terry married Nancy Studdard on September 2, 1960, in Bellevue. Terry was very active in the Bowie community and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. He owned and operated Terry’s Furniture Store and Terry’s Firestone in Bowie for many years. He also started Terry McCarty’s Insurance Agency selling Fire Casualty, Auto, and Life Insurance. Later, Terry began traveling to catastrophic disasters, which led to McCarty’s Adjuster Service for the past 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, riding motorcycles and four wheelers, and tinkering with electronic gadgets. Terry is remembered with love and appreciation for his devoted years of life as a husband, father, and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Hazel McCarty.

Terry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy McCarty of Bowie; three children, Janice McCarty of Denton, Renee Beasley of Bowie, and Don McCarty and wife, Wendy of Sunset; five grandchildren, Kasie Beasley of Bowie, Maryland, Haley Moore and husband, Bobby of Bowie, Jillian Hughes and husband, Matt of Bowie, Logan McCarty of Stephenville, and Jenna McCarty of Sunset; two great-grandchildren, Seth and Brady Moore of Bowie; sister, Connie Pitts and husband, Ray of Bridgeport; two nieces, Marsha Miller of Forney and Sher’Re Holt and husband, Ralph of Bridgeport; nephew, Mike Pitts and wife, Tammy of Fort Worth; father-in-law, Hershel Studdard of Bellevue; mother-in-law, Anna Studdard of Bowie; aunt, Charlene Cunningham of Bowie.
