Community Briefs: Annual fly-in with Heliheads Fun Fly

The sixth annual fly-in with Heliheads Fun Fly will begin at 5 p.m. Friday and last until 5 p.m. Sunday in Arden at 95 Old Shoals Road. The group welcomes anyone willing to sacrifice their radio-controlled helicopters in the pursuit of a good time. Pilot registration will be Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Space for camping and or RVs is limited.

A landing fee of $25for pilots will include a Saturday feast and a ticket for a drawing.

Henry Caldwell, Matt Botos and Marcus Kim will be on hand as well as others to insure a great show of events. This is a helicopter-only event due to limited space at the field. RSVP's are welcome and appreciated.

Housing Assistance Resale Shop

The Housing Assistance Resale Shop, at 655 Seventh Ave. E., is in need of volunteers.

Volunteer jobs include: cleaning of new arrivals, helping customers in the Resale Shop, pricing new arrivals, general clean-up of the Shop and any other job that needs to be done.

Housing Assistance Self-Help Homeownership Program helps families to build a home in one of our sub-divisions and the Home Repair Program makes those repairs to keep a home safe and warm.

DJ Quartet to play at Jamboree

SALUDA — On Friday, the DJ Quartet will have another awesome shag dance at the Saluda Mountain Jamboree.

The DJ Quarte,t or the "Shagtastics" as they are better known, is a group of entertainers that keep the music hopping all evening, plus, they add some double-take acts that will make you wonder who is who. The "Shagtastics" include: Jeff Foster, Buck Crumpton, David O'Quinn and Bobby Vaughn. This shag dance party takes place three to four times a year at the Jamboree Party Place.

There will be free shag dance lesson from 7 to 8 p.m., given by Chip and Ellen Knothe. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the admission is $10. Concessions will be open with hot dogs, popcorn, soft drinks, candy and other goodies. There will be cold beer and wine at the custom designed bar.

The Kiwanis Club of Hendersonville is holding a benefit yard sale on Friday and Saturday to raise funds for community projects. Dozens of members have contributed quality items for the sale. Sale hours begin at 8:30 a.m. each day in the Opportunity House on Asheville Highway.
