As they did last year, Kathy Backlin of Boondocks Salon in Semmes and several of her hairstylists worked all evening updating the looks of the women and girls, trimming, blow-drying and styling their tresses. Among those was Connie Finch of Georgetown, who felt much better after Backlin and her crew performed their magic. Many of the guests received manicures, including teen Starla Wheeler, who showed off her new nails to Semmes Woman’s Club member Carolyn Owens (Owens provided homemade cookies for dessert). One group whose members offered their help in the form of donations and serving guests was the Zonta Club. Present were the immediate past president, Charlene Rains; president, Myra Sands; vice president, Charletta House; and Zonta members, Ginger McCracken and Ann Murray.

House and Sands quickly became expert consultants as they helped Hannah and Leah Blackburn choose hair bows made by McCracken. Looking on was the rest of the Blackburn family — Ayla Blackburn and her son Jack Wilson; brothers Jesse and Aven Blackburn; mom Robin Blackburn; and her grandson, Brandon Wilson.
Cici’s Pizza donated 15 large pizzas to help feed guests. Humphries said she is most grateful for the generosity of the food establishment. Others who contributed to making “You are Beautiful” a success included members of the Dauphin Way Baptist Ladies Monday Night Study Group. Some of the entertainment for the event was provided by a talented young dancer, Danielle Johnson.
