Madison Pressel making a name for herself in amateur ranks
MADISON PRESSEL MAKING HER MARK
Madison Pressel has chosen a different path than her famous older sister, Morgan.
While Morgan Pressel, 23, is in her sixth year on the LPGA Tour, her little sister continues to make a name for herself in the amateur ranks.
Madison Pressel, who turns 20 on July 11, made it to the semifinals of the Women's Western Amateur Championship at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach.
Pressel, who will be a junior at the University of Texas in the fall, was a three-time Palm Beach County Player of the Year (2006-08).
In the Western Am, she matched the competitive course record Tuesday with a 66 and earned co-medalist honors in stroke play. From there, Pressel rolled to the semifinals, including a 7-and-6 win in the second round over Ashley Edwards of Oregon. Argentine 17-year-old Victoria Tanco nipped Pressel 1-up and routed Arkansas' Emma Lavy 13-and-12 on Saturday in the 36-hole final.
Pressel was named Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Year and claimed medalist honors at the Big 12 Championship. She also helped the Longhorns to their first Big 12 title since 2004.
McCURDY, SHAW IN FLORIDA AM HUNT
Heading into the final round of the 94th Florida Amateur Championship, two local golfers will have a chance to catch leader Ryan Abbate of Fort Lauderdale.
Brett McCurdy and Sawyer Shaw, 15, were among the five players who shot in the 60s Saturday on Doral's Blue Monster.
McCurdy, who will be a junior at Northwood University in the fall, carded a three-under 69 to move into a tie for seventh place at one over - three shots behind Abbate. Shaw, who will be a sophomore at Cardinal Newman, birdied three of his first five holes to bounce back from a second-round 76 with a 68.
FAU'S THOMPSON TO PLAY IN PUBLINX
Justin Thompson, who will be a senior at Florida Atlantic, will tee it up this week in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, which runs Monday through Saturday at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon.
Thompson shot 68-73 to qualify June 2-3 at Shula's Golf Club in Miami Lakes.
O'MAHONY HEADED TO U.S. JUNIOR AM
Hunter O'Mahony of Tequesta has earned a spot in the USGA's prestigious U.S. Junior Amateur, scheduled for July 18-23 in Bremerton, Wash.
O'Mahony, who will be a senior at Jupiter High School, became the first, and currently the only, local junior to qualify when he shot a 71 on June 14 for a two-day total of 143 PGA National's Estates Course. He finished third.

I think that Tolbert is right in his assessment. Hopefully this will be the last hurdle.

Craig Ferguson welcomes to the show Mary Steenburgen who is promoting Step Brothers.
You will notice the interview seen above, Mary mentions how touchy her husband Ted is about his bald spot. I was in the Little Rock Airport about a year ago and I was getting money out of the Bank of America ATM and I turned around to leave and both Ted and Mary were standing right behind me. Ted was fumbling around with his wallet and the first thing I noticed was his bald spot.
