History of Scottish Kilts | Mens Winter Jackets - Cheap Winter Jackets
Kilts are a classic knee-length skirt-like garment which is worn open and has no joints between the legs. It has no bodice and can come pleated and without pleats. Kilts are often made from a number of different patterns and materials.
Scottish kilts are about knee-length, pleated, wraparound garment prepared in checkered patterns. With an overlapping front apron and pleats around the back and sides, a Scottish Kilt is held by an ornate pin in the front. Rather than using pins buckles are sometimes used. The pleats are sewn from the waist until the body curves inwards. Due to this the pleats are arranged vertically. The tartan is the popular material used for making the kilt. In many schools of Scotland and England, kilts are used as uniforms for students. The female kilts traversed to the left while those of the male traversed to the right. And although knee length is the standard length of the boys’ kilts, the length of the girls’ kilts have speckled in different periods.
Scottish kilts, also called as Highland kilts, can be worn along with a tweed jacket. Very young boys wear flashes and a sporran along with the kilt. Wealthy parents began using Highland kilts for their children, content to see their child dressed in a kilt instead of pants.
Today, while kilts are associated with Scotland or the Gaelic peoples of the British Isles and Normandy, the style has spread to people in other countries. The Gaelic people of Ireland use kilts yet their tartan styles differ from those used in Scottish kilts. Even the Modern Greek soldieries wear a styled kilt. School children of Scotland and Ireland, dancers, pipers, boy scouts, now prefer wearing kilts to other clothing. Kilts are also put on during official events like weddings, Highland gatherings and for attending church. Kilts serve as a ceremonial dress for the groom, guests and the attendants in the Scottish weddings. Along with the kilt, they also wear a black jacket and jabot. In Greece and Ireland, people never prefer kilts as a fashion for boys’ clothing. But in Scotland, kilts have been adopted as a craze for boys’ clothing, thanks to Queen Victoria. She often made her sons wear kilts which increased the number of Scottish boys who wanted to wear kilts, although sadly it seems modern princes didn’t like them as much.
Back in America, Scottish kilts had influence as well.
