WILSONVILLE -- Award-winning blues musician Karen Lovely will headline the Strawberry Blues Festival June 18 at the Frog Pond Church.

The 61st annual event will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. at the 131-year old church -- also known as the Meridian United Church of Christ -- at 6750 S.W. Boeckman Road.

"We have been known around the Wilsonville area for our strawberry festival for 60 years," said Judy Boncaro, office manager of the first church built in Wilsonville. "But this is the first year that we are making this a blues event...and this is the first year we are featuring world-class musicians."

The Karen Lovely Band will perform at 7:15 p.m. Lovely won the 2009 and 2010 Muddy Awards for performance of the year and the 2010 awards for best female vocalist and best regional act. Her band won second place in last year's international blues challenge and first in the Blues Revue sponsor the band contest. She was nominated this year for the Blues Music Award's best contemporary blues female artist and best contemporary blues album, as well as for song of the year for "Still the Rain."

GLADSTONE -- The Gladstone Historical Society will continue its Centennial Lecture Series Tuesday with "The Oregon Trail Revisited: Revelations From Immigrant Family Journals."  

The second of four presentations will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Atrium Garden Room at the Gladstone Center for Children and Families, 18905 Portland Ave.

 D. "Kent" Lloyd, a retired Gladstone High School teacher and an End of the Trail interpreter, and Steve Jordan, a living history character, will portray the migration that happened from the 1830s to early 1900s with insights and revelations taken from diaries and journals written by the immigrant families.

Their choices of trail routes and reasons that led most to the great Valley of the Willamette will be covered through media and re-enactment by these skilled presenters.
