Tony Bennett Releases The Last Song Ever Made By Amy Winehouse

The saga of Amy Winehouse's slow decline toward her eminent demise started when she went into rehab at the end of May. A month later the singer was booed off stage in Serbia for being messed up during a show, and then she subsequently canceled the rest of her tour shortly after. This entire debacle split Americans over whether or not we should be upset over the conflicted musician’s death.

Our head hancho in the Culture section, Mack Rawden, contemplated that very question in his column: Will Amy Winehouse be remembered in 20 years ? Though it is interesting to think whether the “Stronger than Me” hit-maker will be a memory or just an afterthought down the road, it seems like the music industry won't let her fall into obscurity. Artists like U2, Coldplay, Big Boi, MIA and even Russel Brand have all dedicated a song or an act to the fallen star, and now it’s time for Tony Bennett’s turn. Earlier this year he recorded a duet with Winehouse called “Body and Soul,” and will soon release it as a single. The song will be featured on the Bennett's new album Tony Bennett: Duets II , due out September 20th.

85 years young and he is still touring with well over 150 dates each year. The New York Times has quoted the veteran singer saying, “If you study the masters – Picasso, Jack Benny, Fred Astaire – right up to the day they died, they were performing. If you are creative, you get busier as you get older,” and it’s obvious that he lives by this quote. Not only from his dedication to the deceased musician, but also the endless projects he's working on.

On his new album Duets II , the “Rags to Riches” creator will be performing his most famous songs with this generation's most famous acts. In addition to the Winehouse duet, Bennett also worked with Lady Gaga, John Mayer, Willie Nelson, Norah Jones, Mariah Carey and Faith Hill among others. As exciting listening to the last song ever made by Winhouse will be, I’m actually more excited to hear his duet with Lady Gaga. I’m Just saying.

An Exclusive Interview with Spandau Ballet's Tony Hadley (Part 1 ...

If you grew up in the 1980s like I did, you remember when Spandau Ballet ruled the world.  Smash hits like “True,” “Communication” and “Gold” dominated MTV and were played on the radio constantly – and for good reason – they sound just as great now as they did then.  Spandau Ballet front man Tony Hadley has continued making music, both with and without the group, has appeared on the West End stage as crooked lawyer Billy Flynn in “Chicago” and has spent a lot of time working with chairitable causes.  He even has his own brand of beer!  This week, Tony Hadley is embarking on a new adventure – his first ever solo tour of the United States!  (Tour dates are below).

Last week, I had the great privelage of speaking with Tony Hadley while he was in Mallorca, Spain, as he got a little rest and relaxation in while in preparation for the tour.  During our conversation, he opened up about everything from an upcoming collaboration with another musical icon to the status of Spandau Ballet.  It was absolutely delightful to speak with Tony.  I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to talk with one of my musical heroes and to find out some of the answers to the questions that both myself and my readers have been burning to find out.  Thanks to everyone who sent in questions via Facebook and Twitter and extra special thanks to Tony Hadley for his sincerity and for all the great music he’s given the world – past, present and future.

According2G : What are your thoughts on the current state of the music business?

Tony Hadley : It’s going through a massive transition at the moment.  It’s pretty scary actually.  We’re in a position where anyone can basically make a record in their bedroom whereas years ago the only way you could make a record was for the record company to give you the money so you could go to a proper studio and record.  The ray of light is that people still like to play music and go see live shows.
